Origin Story
St. Anthony of Padua is remembered as a great preacher, a beloved Franciscan saint, and a powerful helper in urgent need. Catholics have long turned to him for lost things, for relief in difficulty, and for the grace to live with humility and charity.
Instructions
Traditionally prayed from June 4 through June 12 in preparation for the feast of St. Anthony of Padua on June 13.
Some Catholics keep this novena with an Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be each day; others extend the devotion as the Thirteen Days of St. Anthony or the Thirteen Tuesdays.
Pray the same St. Anthony prayer each day and bring the particular need you have in mind before the saint who is often invoked for lost things and urgent help.
It is especially fitting for humility, poverty of spirit, and confidence that God hears sincere petitions.

Day 1: Purity of Heart
Ask St. Anthony for a heart made clean and simple before God.
Daily Prayer
O glorious St. Anthony, lily of purity and mirror of humility, who received the Infant Jesus into thy arms, I ask thy powerful protection in this need. Help me cleanse my heart of every disordered affection, obtain for me true contrition for my sins, and increase in me a great love of God and of my neighbor, so that I may serve Him faithfully in this life and praise Him eternally in heaven with thee. Amen. O my Lord and my God, I offer up this petition to Thee through the bitter Passion and death of Jesus Christ, Thy Son, and through the merits of His Immaculate Mother and all the saints, asking that Thy grace and Thy love may be granted to me and that my prayer may be heard according to Thy holy will. Amen.
