Origin Story

St. Monica is remembered for her patient tears and long prayer for the conversion of her son Augustine and for the steadfastness of her faith under sorrow. She is a model for anyone who keeps praying when results are slow.

Instructions

Traditionally prayed from April 25 through May 3 in preparation for the feast of St. Monica on May 4.

The Fisheaters page also includes prayers linked to her devotion to the Blessed Sacrament and her intercession for conversion.

Pray the same St. Monica prayer each day and bring before her the loved ones you are trying to help by prayer and patient trust.

It is especially fitting for mothers, fathers, and anyone praying for the return of a child or relative to God.

Day 1: Tears Offered to God

Bring your sorrow and loved ones before God with patient faith.

Daily Prayer

Dear St. Monica, troubled wife and mother, many sorrows pierced thy heart during thy lifetime. Yet thou didst never despair or lose faith. With confidence, persistence, and profound faith, thou didst pray daily for the conversion of thy beloved husband and thy beloved son Augustine. Grant me that same fortitude, patience, and trust in the Lord. Intercede for me, dear St. Monica, that God may favorably hear my plea for my present intention, and grant me the grace to accept His will in all things, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.
