Origin Story

St. Francis de Sales is remembered for his gentleness, charity, and practical spiritual wisdom. Catholics turn to him when they want holiness that is calm, ordinary, and steady rather than dramatic or harsh.

Instructions

Some Catholics pray this novena from January 20 through January 28 in anticipation of his feast on January 29.

The Fisheaters feast page presents him as the Gentleman Saint and recommends him as a special friend and protector.

Pray the same St. Francis de Sales prayer each day and ask for the grace to stay calm, faithful, and charitable.

It is especially fitting for those who want practical holiness, gentler speech, and perseverance in ordinary duties.

Day 1: Gentleness

Ask for a gentle spirit that speaks and acts without harshness.

Daily Prayer

O great St. Francis de Sales, doctor of charity and model of gentleness, obtain for me the grace to live with patience, humility, and steadfast love. Teach me to serve God faithfully in the ordinary duties of life, to speak with kindness, to endure trial without bitterness, and to persevere in the path of holiness until the end. Pray that I may die in the peace of Christ and enter the joy of heaven. Amen.
