Origin Story

St. Lucy is remembered as a virgin martyr whose very name is linked with light. Catholic devotion has long turned to her for purity, courage, and protection of the eyes, making her a natural patron for souls who need to walk faithfully through darkness.

Instructions

Traditionally prayed from December 4 through December 12 in preparation for the feast of St. Lucy on December 13.

The Fisheaters entry ties St. Lucy to light, purity, courage, and the grace of sight.

Pray the same St. Lucy prayer each day and make a small act of faith by placing your eyes, mind, and heart under her protection.

This novena is especially fitting for those asking for help with the eyes, spiritual clarity, chastity, or steadiness in suffering.

Day 1: Light of Faith

Ask St. Lucy to keep the light of faith alive and bright in your soul.

Daily Prayer

O glorious St. Lucy, your name speaks of light. By the light of faith God granted you, keep that light burning in my soul, that I may avoid evil, love what is good, and turn from the blindness of sin. Ask for me a clear mind, a pure heart, and, if it be God's will, protection for my bodily eyes. Above all, obtain for me the grace to walk in the light of Christ with courage, chastity, and steadfast faith until the end. Saint Lucy, virgin and martyr, pray for me. Amen.
